Enjoy a Trip to the Races

If you like a flutter on the horses, there are plenty of online gaming options available. Occasionally I like to place a wager on horse racing. Somehow it seems to be the most authentic form of betting. Also, the thrill and excitement of a race is difficult to match. Now I have discovered though that there are some excellent online options which re-create all the thrill of the chase.Noble Casino offers an excellent horse racing simulation in the form of Derby Day. The top notch graphics and top class race commentary make this an especially realistic experience. I found that it’s important to check out the form before backing a horse, but once you’ve made your decision, you will love following the race. You can find a similar experience too at Party Casino, where Virtual Horse is an attractive game. It offers you two different options – Instant play or you can wait for a scheduled race before deciding which horse to back. Like Derby Day, the visual effects are excellent, which helps to maintain the excitement of horse racing. However, if you’re simply looking for a horse racing themed game, rather than a simulation, look no further than Frankie Dettori’s Magic Seven slot, which is available a Swiss Casino. It even includes real video footage of some of Frankie’s best ever races. In addition to impressive cash prizes, one of the bonus games lets you enjoy a race simulation too.

Continued Talks about William Hill and Sportingbet Takeover

The gambling and betting markets are holding their breaths for the next big takeover in the industry. William Hill, the UK’s largest bookmaker with 2,300 betting shops across Britain – together with GVC Holdings, B2B and B2C services provider to online gaming companies – are about to close on a £530 million deal with Sportingbet. The anticipated agreement enables William Hill to take over Sportingbet’s gambling-regulated markets in Spain and Australia – and GVC Holdings to gain the acquired company’s holdings in riskier and less regulated locations. With William Hill on a global expansion push (it recently purchased three businesses in Nevada), the expected takeover expands its international portfolio. After all, Sportingbet has markets in 28 countries and more than 700,000 active customers. Its Australian business alone is said to be responsible for almost 70 percent of its revenues. What are the odds of this deal happening? While a successful bid is not a certainty, bid discussions are said to be preliminary, and both sides had until November 13 to finalize it, before receiving an extension to their deadline. Odds are the buyout will happen. Sportingbet has agreed to William Hill’s latest proposal of £530 million – which is 20 percent higher than last month’s previous offer. The agreed-upon deal is a mix of cash and stock, with shares valued at 61.1 pence per share. Sportingbet had rejected the previous offer of 52.5 pence. Shares in both William Hill and Sportingbet rose after the announcement. Is William Hill the “white knight bidder” that Sportingbet was thought to have been seeking?

Farewell, Iron Lady (1925-2013)

Divisive during her lifetime and beyond... Baroness Margaret Thatcher continues to polarise the nation even on the event of her death.  The ex-Prime Minister passed away yesterday aged 87, and whilst some people marked the occasion by paying tribute to the Conservative leader who opened up the free market, other people are holding street parties to bid her "good riddance". Margaret Thatcher, Europe's first female Prime Minister, was also Britain's most long-serving leader of the 20th Century. The 'Iron Lady' as USSR originally branded her, is perhaps most famous for her role in ending the Cold War,  resisting the idea of a more federal Europe, closing the mines in Northern England, clamping down on trade unions, cutting public services, introducing the Poll Tax. Quite a legacy, which ever way you choose to look at it. Needless to say, her sudden resignation on 22 November 1990 was one of the most dramatic events in British politics. No one could have been more surprised than she, when her cabinet announced they would not back her in the upcoming elections. This is the stuff of Shakespeare. Get closer to the action with William Hill Politics Betting William Hill offer a vast range of politics bets as part of its sports bets offering: The future of the EU, the next US and UK election - it's all covered, with some really thought-provoking questions: Will Ed Milliband go before the next general election?  Will Scotland achieve full independence from the UK by 1st January 2020?  Will Boris Johnson stand as an MP before the next General Election in 2015? So don't just read about it and speculate - put your money where your mouth is.

Gambling in the UK: Survey Results

The UK Gambling Commission has just published the January to March 2013 Gambling Participation survey results. Their findings are based on the answers of 4,000 survey participants across the UK. So how often are Brits betting? Less than half a percent of those surveyed had played Poker in the four weeks leading up to the survey, but of those who had, 18 percent played at least twice a week, 24 percent played once a week, 7 percent played once a month, and the remaining 51 percent play even less frequently than that. But that’s just Poker... what about other forms of gambling? 58 percent of those surveyed had gambled in some form in the four weeks leading up to the survey – that’s a whole percent (about 40 people) more than the previous survey; also up one percent is the number of online players, from 14 to 15%. However, once you exclude the National Lottery online, that figure falls to 8%, exactly the same as last time. Are you gambling more than you were last year or do you know more people who are? Interestingly, those who gambled recently were more likely to be men than women. Does this survey represent you? Gambling online only as opposed to both online and in person was the most popular method for sports betting, spread betting, and casino games. After that, participants reported betting only in person. It was least likely that UK players would play both online and in person regularly.

Six Arrested in UK Football Match Fixing Investigation

Officers from the UK's National Crime Agency have arrested six men in the frame of an investigation dealing with alleged English football match fixing. According to the NCA, the arrests are linked to an investigation dealing with a suspected international illegal betting syndicate. The arrests came after UK newspaper The Telegraph carried out its own investigation on match fixers from Asia who were targeting English football. One international match fixer was arrested on his arrival to the UK last week. Covertly taped, the man talked of lower league matches which could be fixed for sums going for as little as £50k. The man correctly predicted the outcomes of three games played by the same team. Football Association Criticism The arrests come just a month following the criticism that was unleashed on the UK Football Association which failed to question three non-league clubs about suspicious betting patterns on matches last season. Perhaps the arrests are linked to the criticism the FA endured, as the association released a statement saying: "We have worked closely with the authorities in relation to these allegations. The FA will make no further comment at this time due to ongoing investigations." In November the FA was criticized by a Europol senior official Nick Garlic who said he believes match fixers were working in Britain. It remains to be seen just how deep this affair runs in English football. Whatever happens, the FA is going to have to work to rehabilitate its integrity which it so fiercely defends.
