The Gambling Commission has just appointed Brian Pomeroy to replace Baroness Julia Neuberger as the chairman of its Responsible Gambling Strategy Board, appointing him to fill the role until at least March 2013.
Advising the Commission
The RGSB was established in late 2008 to advise the Gambling Commission and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport on research, education and treatment programmes needed to support a responsible gambling strategy.
This strategy-oriented body is one of three working under the Gambling Commission to uphold the government’s pledge to ensure responsible behaviour across the industry. The other two are the GREaT Foundation, which oversees fundraising, and the Responsible Gambling Fund, which acts as a distributing body.
Pomeroy Brings Expertise
Brian Pomeroy is currently a non-executive director of the Financial Services Authority and Deputy Chair of QBE Insurance Europe Limited, so he brings a lot of experience to the table. He also worked as a senior partner at Deloitte until 1999.
Gambling Commission Chairman Philip Graf said he brings a clear understanding of the history and challenges facing all those who are focus on reducing gambling-related harm, and that he will help build on the achievements made under Baroness Neuberger.
