Poker Comps Booming in the UK

Despite poor accounts of the competition activity in the US, the same cannot be said about UK poker competitions, which are positively booming.

According to Dave Woods, editor-in-chief of the popular Poker Player magazine has suggested that the UK poker tour circuit is in the ascendant. This contrasts sharply with the poor numbers being reported from similar tours in the United States. Woods stated that the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour and the Gala Casino British Poker Tour have, "both been doing really good numbers."

Woods further remarked that the European Poker Tour, which receives its London debut in a few short weeks is "the big success story at the moment." He added that this tour had become extremely popular with poker players over the course of the last several years.

Leading up to the World Series of Poker (WSOP) tournament in 2008, several observers had predicted a decline in world poker numbers. In spite of this, the WSOP recorded record attendance at the 2008 event, which has encouraged organisers and poker enthusiasts across the globe.
