Evolution Gaming is under scrutiny from the UKGC after regulators found that the provider’s content was available at unlicensed online casino sites. This could result in a fine, suspension, or the revocation of the license.
Evolution Gaming is a leading live content provider to online casinos and betting sites. Founded in 2006, the brand is highly respected in the industry. It has grown to become a major player in the online casino industry, offering a wide range of live casino games, including roulette, blackjack, baccarat and poker.
The provider’s commitment to innovation and quality has earned them a reputation as a trusted name. Known for their exciting live casino games such as Lightning Roulette and a diverse portfolio of live game shows, they are considered a leader in the live dealer space, having habitually won Live Casino Supplier of the Year at industry award events.
Their success has seen them expand worldwide, securing licenses from key jurisdictions, including:
Yet, despite this track record of excellence, they ran into a rather substantial hurdle at the start of the year - one that could damage their reputation and bottom line.
Evolution is in hot water with the UK Gambling Commission due to licensing concerns and alleged black market activity - far from the ideal start to 2025 that executives and shareholders had been banking on.
By the end of 2024, it became known that the UK Gambling Commission had launched a review of Evolution’s UK operating license after the regulator discovered that the provider’s games were available at unlicensed online casino sites.
The issue is subject to investigation, but shortly after being made aware, Evolution stepped up, took immediate action, and ensured that the Commission got their full cooperation.
In pledging its full cooperation, the live dealer game provider released a statement in late December 2024, stating that it had requested immediate action be taken to remedy the situation. Evolution has added substance to its words by ensuring that its games are only available on websites with UK Commission licenses.
With around 3% of the company’s total revenue coming from the UK market, it is imperative for their bottom line that the company is willing to sort through the issues and ensure that it remains compliant.

Evolution’s CEO, Martin Carlesund, commented that the company embraces the review’s objectives and remains fully committed to supporting the licensed UK market and preventing unlicensed traffic.
He also stressed that they are using all the technical tools at their disposal to ensure that the only Evolution games accessible to UK players are via UK Commission-licensed operators. Carlesund added:
“We believe that a close collaboration to address our joint concerns will lead to swifter and better results. As always, we remain committed to an open and transparent relationship with our regulators.”
The investigation could result in several potential outcomes. The Commission could opt to take no action or could impose financial sanctions. The provider may also face conditions attached to its supplier license to United Kingdom online casinos or possibly even the suspension or revocation of its license.
Evolution has faced several challenges over the past months besides the UKGC review.
Despite these challenges, Evolution reported significant growth in its third-quarter results, highlighting a significant 14.7%% increase in net gaming revenue year-on-year. This growth is partly attributed to the continuous launch of new games and variations on traditional games.
Some of the upcoming projects Evolution Gaming has announced are:
Evolution also plans to launch new products, including a collaborative gaming experience with streamers and several new live slot games.
The company continues to navigate through operational difficulties while maintaining a trajectory of growth and innovation.
