On March 27, 2023, the Entain Foundation, a non-profit organization backed by global sports betting, gaming, and interactive entertainment group Entain, announced its commitment to funding the Alumni Project of Gordon Moody.
This UK charity offers treatment for gambling addiction. The two-year program will create a network of formerly treated problem gamblers who will mentor and support others undergoing treatment. In addition, the project will offer paid positions for alumni and a steering group to enhance treatment programs. Entain has been supporting Gordon Moody for six years through donations, provision of resources, and promotion of treatment programs.
The project will cost £740,000 and will be fully funded by the Entain Foundation. It will begin in April under the guidance of Gordon Moody's Head of Service Development, Clinical Director, and Clinical Governance Committee members.
Barry Gibson, Chairman of Entain, said:
We have been proud and active supporters of Gordon Moody for several years now and are delighted to continue that support with the charity’s Alumni Project funding. This is in addition to the more than £40m we have voluntarily donated to GambleAware, who commission treatments for gambling addiction across England, Scotland, and Wales, free at the point of delivery.
Gordon Moody’s Alumni Project will be the first time that those who have completed their treatment can support those seeking treatment. It will provide people most at risk from gambling harm with direct support from those who have been in their position and recovered.
Matthew Hickey, CEO of Gordon Moody, said:
The Alumni Project will help Gordon Moody reach more people who need our support by putting the voice of lived experience at the heart of our engagement and residential services. Support from the Entain Foundation is crucial to help Gordon Moody grow its services and meet the demands of those needing treatment and support. We are delighted to continue our work with Entain and for their ongoing support and financial donations.
Gordon Moody is a registered charity established in 1971, with over 50 years of experience providing residential support and treatment for individuals with severe gambling addiction. The organization operates residential treatment centers throughout the UK and relies on donations and grants to fund most of its services.
While GambleAware provides the majority of funding for treatment, Gordon Moody also accepts donations from individuals and companies to support their work.
The residential treatment services offered by the charity are generally free, though small contributions may sometimes be required for rent. The funding for these contributions is mainly provided through welfare benefits. For additional information, support, and donation links, please visit the Gordon Moody website at gordonmoody.org.uk
